I’ve been spending a lot of time with my in-laws lately (uh…tread lightly here…they read this!). Driving to doctors, grocery, etc. while they both nurse various orthopedic ailments. Its really sucks to be old, ya know. Amazingly God-sent that I’m home to do all this for them right now when they need someone, though. Just keep sending money, Lord, to pay the bills.
Well, today, I have no such committments. So, here it is 10:12am and I’m still in my robe and laptop! Oh, Hi, Ellen ; I wish it was Today you had Oprah on (didja catch that? I’ve watched all 3 shows today…). I really need to get in the shower, however…got a big lunch date with a new friend.
And, I REFUSE to be depressed about the fact that I’m STILL unemployed and broke, and that this new friend AND her husband are also unemployed! Eeek…we’ll have to find other topics to discuss… at least the sun is shining and its finally WARM in Indy…40’s seems warm after negative temps for 3 weeks.
Topic of conversation today; generosity. Some people feel they’re being generous because they write a check to a charity once in awhile. But is that really generosity? Or is someone who gives of themselves and their time more generous? Or the lowest income person who still tithes?
I was somewhat sickened today to watch a cable show about lottery winners. All showed off the “stuff” that their new riches had allowed; $1400.per place setting dishes from Russia, carved elephant tusks (isn’t that illegal?), swimming pools, collector cars, etc. Not one mentioned donating even a penny to charity. That’s sick, people, just sick. That is the most self-centered form of existence and about as UN-Christian as you can be…aren’t we supposed to be loving and giving? Isn’t that what is the most fulfilling part of our Earthly lives?
I consider myself a fairly nutritious eater. I take a multi-vitamin and a couple other supplements most days of the week, I buy juice and fruit and drink lots of water. But its hard, isn’t it? Sometimes I find myself pushing bananas and veggies to my family, only to realize that I, myself, haven’t eaten that banana or whatever. I swore I wouldn’t ever allow my children to be “picky”, but guess what? You really have no control over what goes in their mouths once they’re about 6 years old or so. I can’t force them to eat anything…even though I try!
And even though I know in my mind that a salad with dark green leafy lettuce would be a healthy choice for lunch, when I reach in the fridge I often grab the lunchmeat sandwich instead! Horrors! Healthy eating just isn’t that much fun for me. <sigh>
So, for breakfast, it was coffee, oatmeal with a slice of 10-grain toast….and a handful of chocolate chips!
Okay, my 31-27 prediction didn’t come true (it was 29-17) details but hey…Colts win!! They worked hard and earned every point they got…good for them!
We took our 2 teenaged boys to the RCA Dome yesterday for the official Colts Rally. W*O*W….a blue and white sea of 55,000 or so people were there along with us, waiting and waiting for our beloved team to arrive with the Lombardi trophy. It was fun to be part of, but if you ask me (hey, its my blog…you don’t need to ask)…it was very poorly planned. All those people sat in the Dome from 3pm until 7pm with no concessions! And the only entertainment was the SuperBowl being played on the DiamondVision. What? No decent bands? No season recaps? No “get your picture taken with a Peyton stand-up doll”? No imagination there, I guess…..and I guess it also shows how nice Hoosiers really are; nobody killed anybody!!
No riots, no angry people, nothing thrown. Everybody was great.
Now….on to Super Bowl XLII !!
A friend of mine was in Chicago last week and said he did not see any sign of Bears Fever…no billboards, no banners, no signs in store windows, etc. that would lead you to believe that people were excited their team was going to the SuperBowl.
Here in Indianapolis…it is Colts Crazy! Every store is decked out in blue and white, every employee sporting Colts jerseys, 8 out of every 10 people have Colts attire on. Offices downtown have put signs in windows and changed out lights to blue and white, banners hang all over the city, every commercial is about the Colts and SuperBowl fever.
Its amazing! People are so excited! Tonight we’re going to our first Super Bowl party. Duh…the game isn’t ’til tomorrow….but ole Bob doesn’t like to share his football games with anybody (he’s too intense)….so they’re having their party tonight. Blue and white appetizers and desserts and white chili. I’m supposed to bring an appetizer. *Note* when you add blue to salsa, it turns into a muddy color! Oh well…I tried. Tomorrow K3’s basketball team is getting blue-iced cupcakes, too. How fun!
Well, I gotta go throw on a jersey for the party…just so its official, I’m publicly announcing Colts 31 and Bears 27. (Although the Bears defense is really good and they might not let the Colts score that much….we’ll see
)

Youngest, decked out for School Pride Day yesterday.
