Ew…doesn’t sound so good, does it? Just when I was sickened by the whole political scene, and my own personal financial crisis….our quiet Sunday evening was suddenly ruined by the realization that one of the dogs had eaten a whole bunch of medicine. 4 dogs…and somebody ate about 6-8 tabs of an anti-inflammatory medication (Deramaxx) for canine arthritis. Which one ate them? One showed up with the pill bottle in his mouth, another playing with the cap, and a 3rd left a telltale teensy poopie nearby….so, a call to the 24-hour emergency vet, followed by feeding all 4 dogs Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomiting, followed by an ugly walk down the street with all 4 until we saw everybody’s dinner. Ick. Not what I had in mind for a wind-down evening in front of a crackling fire.
Bottom line….we never saw a pill come out, but all 4 emptied their stomachs and then we gave them Pepcid to ease the discomfort. All are sleeping soundly now….have to wait it out for about 24 hours….But still, not an evening I’d want to ever repeat. Now…..I’m going to bed!!

I must say that first of all, I am NOT the political one in my family…that would be my husband! He loves politics, reads all the websites, papers, etc. but I just don’t care that much. I listen on the surface (who can escape it?), but just really don’t enjoy it all that much.
Its depressing to me that the top candidates are always the ones who 1) their respective parties decided were the most “sellable” or are the most “charismatic”, etc… and 2) who can handle the overly rigorous schedule of campaigning/raising money, etc. and 3) the dollars raised and spent on campaigning makes me physically ill.
As a result, we have 2 major candidates this year that I just am not thrilled with. The one everyone seems to be just IN LOVE with…has absolutely no experience! No..I don’t mean no experience in political office or no experience in being a president. No, this Jesus/MLK figure has NO experience…has he ever even held a job of any kind? Wouldn’t that be somewhat like putting the receptionist in charge of the company; she has a good education, she’s nice and all… why not? Then there’s the other candidate…the oldest candidate in history to run for President….and with a medical history that points to a heightened chance of DEATH within the next couple years (and that’s with normal living…not taking into account the rigors and stress of a presidency)…and his vice president-to-be who (uh oh..here goes again)…has NO experience! Yes…governor of the largest state in the union….with the fewest number of people, I believe. I’m not voting for HER for president….she’s not worthy…so why did they stick her with him??
And the $500 million? That’s how much that ONE CANDIDATE has already spent on his campaign! (http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/summary.php?cid=N00009638) My God! That’s more than the gross national product of Ireland and Iran COMBINED! That’s just sick, people….you could practically cure cancer or save world hunger with that kind of money! Where are people’s priorities?! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)
That, friends, is why I hate politics. And by the way, for the first time in history, the Indianapolis Star is not endorsing any presidential candidate. The Editorial Board just couldn’t come to any agreement, so they agreed to disagree and not endorse for this race. Interesting.
Last weekend for the farmer’s market, where 2 other jewelers and I have been selling our goods….its been a nice way to make some additional spending money (i.e. gasoline!), though I must admit that I have not NETTED much, especially considering I’ve spent nearly every Saturday hanging out at the market from 7:30am to noon….after working 45+ hours per week at my “normal” job. So now, we’ll be doing special holiday parties at a local bank. Hopefully it will net us more!
Meanwhile, I’m back at Williams Sonoma as well…holiday work that also allows me a 40% discount on gifts and foodie stuff for me.
No, I don’t buy much kitchen stuff (I have so much already!), but I am always sorely tempted by the awesome food items/ mixes, etc. Yum! I’m a better cook when I’m working there….when I’m ever home to cook, that is….
Drove 2 hours to pick up middle child from college for the weekend. Ate dinner with his girlfriend, then she turned around and drove her 3 hours back to her school and we drove 2 more hours home. I think son is happy to be home in his own bed, with his own dogs! I think he even enjoyed the time bickering with his younger brother (I KNOW the younger brother was quite happy to have him home!)
Life is full of little moments….little stuff is important.
And….I am OFF tomorrow! No work of any kind (okay, housework…I’m actually looking forward to mopping, etc…is that SICK or what?!)
