This will be a big year for us; big wedding of daughter in April, followed by college graduation of son, then h.s. graduation of other son…followed by our 30th wedding anniversary…and surely a trip to the poorhouse!
As I look ahead to this, I also have a list of projects I want to complete:
- Various wedding projects (just 14 weeks away!):
- 2 flower girl dresses and baskets and hairbands/ribbons
- table numbers and place-cards
- invitations and programs (mostly kits)
- Painting projects:
- 1940′s maple dresser, soon to be distressed white; for craft supplies
- bookshelf; adding fabric for shelf backing
- old oak straight sidechair from Goodwill
- other wooden side tables/chair finds from Goodwill, etc. for son’s post-college apartment
- Other downstairs living room decor to make it a better place to hang out
Okay…lots of other stuff I can’t remember right now. I need to get started sewing! Here is what I have so far for 2 adorable flower girls…looks like cotton candy!

Holy cow! Talk about a year on the stress meter (and the bless meter). Wedding and two graduations. And how are the elderlies doing?

Thanks for asking…the elderlies are fine. Every day continues to be an adventure

Hi Kathy,
Excuse me. I have to go take a nap just from reading your to-do list. I’m in awe that you have so many hands-on projects in addition to all of the flat-out organizational ones to get all of these events pulled off.
I will be anxiously following your blog because I am MOTHER OF THE GROOM in October. Must be time of life (I’,m 53) but weddings are the year’s theme around here: Our publisher’s daughter is getting married in March; two reporters are getting married in May; our church ladies’ group is putting on a rehearsal dinner for one member’s son in May; a niece is getting married in September and my older son in October!
The cotton-candy dresses will be show stoppers … until of course the bride walks down the aisle. Congratulations (is that proper to wish you?) I’m confused by a lot of wedding ettitquite!.
I come from a far-away land called the 1970s when we got married in a small country church and had cake and punch after in the basement. My but this is a new world.
Count me excited though. Donna

Thanks, Donna. Be glad you’re the GROOM’s mother…much cheaper!
You’re in charge of the rehearsal dinner, tho, I believe…and perhaps a shower? Its all just starting to kick in for us; 14 weeks away! My daughter hates making decisions and is gladly telling me to take over planning (with her approvals, of course!). Its a fairly simple wedding/rehearsal, but yes quite different from my 1982 wedding where we didn’t have near as many CHOICES!
